Toronto, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement today that he plans to resign is being met with cautious optimism and hope for a better future for Canada by Canadian voters and the more than 35,000 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU).
“Although the priorities of the elected government did not align with the needs of transit workers and middle-class Canadians, we are extremely concerned with the future of what a strong Canada will look like as we move to a federal election in the coming months,” said ATU Canada President John Di Nino. “Robust funding for public transit and support for working families and labour unions must be a priority.”
The Union says Canadian voters should take time to evaluate their priorities that align with various political parties as they begin to make an election choice that will shape Canada’s future.
“Working class people across Canada should consider making reasonable election decisions on candidates that are pro-worker, pro-labour, and pro-transit as a fundamental necessity to keep cities across our country moving. Our Union will be mobilizing our membership to get involved in this critical election that will determine the future of Canada,” said ATU International President John Costa.
