Kelly Evans — Local 1005-Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
Kelly Evans was a Customer Relations Specialist at a laser eye surgery company, when a friend mentioned an exciting opportunity at Metro Transit for a full-time bus operator position. She had considered applying, but with only part-time positions available and her responsibilities as a single mother to young children, it simply wasn’t feasible. In May 2023 when her kids were older, she was ready for a new chapter and started the Metro Transit Bus Operator Apprenticeship program as a memberof our Local 1005-Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. “The training program for this role has been both rewarding and challenging. My mentor in the apprenticeship provided invaluable guidance, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to handle any situation on the job. The tools and insights I gained have been essential to my success and confidence asa Metro Transit Bus Operator,” said Sister Evans. “Now, with over a year and a half of experience, I genuinely enjoy my work. Each day bringsthe chance to meet new people and spread positivity throughout the community, which brings me immense joy. This role has been morethan just a job; it has become a fulfilling way to contribute and connect with others, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
