Silver Spring, MD — Reinforcing their unwavering support and presidential endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), North America’s largest transit union, applauds Vice President Harris’ stellar debate performance tonight.
“Tonight, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump presented their visions for the future of the United States on the national stage. Vice President Harris once again demonstrated that she is the clear choice to lead our country with a bold agenda addressing the critical concerns of the American people, building on our progress, and aiming for a more inclusive and equitable society for all,” said ATU International President John Costa.
During the debate, Harris focused on economic inequality, women’s rights, climate change, and healthcare. She emphasized the need to create an opportunity economy, expand access to affordable healthcare, protect women’s right to choose, tackle climate change through energy initiatives, and address systemic inequalities affecting marginalized communities, including creating good union jobs.
“Donald Trump is a convicted felon who crosses picket lines,” said Costa. “If reelected, he will implement his extremely radical Project 2025, giving him unchecked power, including slashing worker protections. Under President Trump, we lost millions of jobs while he gave handouts to his billionaire friends. Kamala Harris, on the other hand, is a labor champion who has always fought for workers and unions. As an integral part of the most pro-union administration in history, Harris helped add nearly 16 million jobs to the U.S. economy and poured billions and billions of dollars into public transit. We know she will have our backs.”
The debate showcased a clear contrast between Harris’s focus on progressive policies to address social issues and Trump’s emphasis on his dangerous conservative agenda.
“Vice President Harris will build a more hopeful future for all of us, where we don’t just survive but thrive,” continued Costa. “Tonight’s debate was a primetime opportunity for the American people to see that Kamala Harris should be the next President of the United States. As Kamala says, ‘We’re not going back.’ Back to a time of chaos and cruelty. We move forward in the next sixty days with hope and promise to elect the first woman of color to the highest office in our nation. She is beyond capable and ready to serve.”
