ATU Purchases New Headquarters Building in Washington, DC

21 Dupont Circle Will Serve as Union’s New Headquarters

Silver Spring, MD—The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) is excited to announce the purchase of a new headquarters building in Washington, DC, marking a significant milestone in the Union's history. Located at 21 Dupont Circle across the street from a red line Metro stop, the property will serve as the ATU’s new headquarters office for its more than 200,000 members across the U.S. and Canada.

“This is the next chapter in the ATU’s long and proud history,” said International President John Costa. “This building is not just our new headquarters. It’s a symbol of our more than 200,000 hardworking members across North America. Being in the U.S. Capital, where decisions are made, is critical to our mission. We’re also excited to be able to contribute to the D.C. community, where many of our members live and work. The ATU will have a stronger voice through this strategic investment.”

Our new headquarters building will serve as a hub for ATU’s programs and administrative functions, providing state-of-the-art resources to effectively support the Union’s operations. The building will undergo renovations to make it into a place to not only proudly call our new headquarters, but also a building that our members will see as fitting and a beacon of worker solidarity and empowerment for our 132-year-old Union.

The ATU’s current headquarters at the Tommy Douglas Center, formerly the National Labor College, in Silver Spring, MD, is now under contract for sale.
