Silver Spring, MD - Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) International President John Costa released the following statement on Vice President Kamala Harris’ Selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her candidate for Vice President:
“In selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, Kamala Harris has chosen a Vice President who has been a champion of working families and labor unions. When Donald Trump was asked whether JD Vance would be ready on Day One if he became Commander in Chief, Trump immediately ducked the question and said that the Vice-Presidential pick was not very important. Kamala Harris answered the question as far as Tim Walz is concerned: 'Yes, he is.'
“A former union member, football coach, teacher, and 24-year veteran with ‘good midwestern commonsense’, we know Governor Walz is the right choice for Vice President. He has already proven to be a great leader in his state, investing in public transportation and infrastructure, expanding workers’ rights, increasing investments in education, improving economic opportunity for all, cutting child poverty, creating safe communities for all, and expanding access to healthcare.
“Having served in Congress for 12 years, Walz understands Washington, has a history of reaching across the aisle, and knows how to get things done, bringing a diverse perspective and strong experience.
“Walz understands what’s at stake in the election, labeling Trump and JD Vance as ‘weird’ and out of step with working people. An historic Harris/Walz Administration will continue and build upon the past 3.5 years of strengthening unions and working families and building a better future for our country.
“At the ATU, We’re Ridin’ with Harris and Walz.”
