International President Costa Tours Beantown with Visit to Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589
ATU International President John Costa and International Vice President Steve MacDougall were in Boston, MA, to visit with members of Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589 on the job before installing the Local’s officers at their Union meeting the next evening.
Touring the MBTA
After visiting the Local’s new Union Hall, Costa met with bus operators at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Albany garage. Costa then went to the MBTA Green Line facility where he had the opportunity to speak with members. In touring these facilities, Costa saw firsthand the critical work our members perform each day in the city of Boston.
Officer Installation
The next night, Costa installed the recently elected officers and Executive Board members of Local 589 including Local President/Business Agent Jim Evers, Jr., Vice President Bill Berardino, Financial Secretary-Treasurer Jim Bradley, Recording Secretary Wayne Peacock, and Assistant Business Agent Karen Maxwell.
“This Local is an institution in the ATU. Your Local leaders and members have a long history of fighting for the rights and dignity of our members. I’m proud to call you my brothers and sisters,” Costa told our members.
