ATU Establishes Pacific Western Transportation Joint Industry Council
The ATU is excited to announce that International President John Costa and the General Executive Board have established the Pacific Western (PW) Transportation Joint Industry Council.
PW Transportation Growing
As PW Transportation has grown to be a bigger company across Canada, taking over more of the properties where our members work, the GEB formed the new PW JIC so our Locals with contracts with PW can work together to address the challenges and issues that we’re going to face.
Participating Locals
The Council will be represented by our Locals with contracts with the Canadian private transportation company, including Local 569-Edmonton, AB, Local 583-Calgary, AB, Local 1572-Mississauga, ON, Local 1624-Peterborough, ON, and Local 1747, Port Alberni, BC.
In 2018, recognizing the growing trend of private transportation companies taking over the management of transit systems, our Union established our Joint Industry Councils. Under International President John Costa’s leadership, our JIC’s have taken an industry-leading approach to bargaining and employer/employee relations with these private transportation companies.
“Our JIC’s have played a critical role in collectively securing strong contracts for our members employed by private transportation companies,” said Costa. “We look forward to doing the same with the members of the PW JIC Council in order to better organize the membership, provide for their collective defense, and to advance the interests of our members and our Union.”
