ATU-Endorsed Senate Candidates

Control of the Senate hangs in the balance for the upcoming U.S. election in November. The ATU has compiled information on where the key Senate candidates listed below stand on the issues of transportation and labor that are most important to our members, our Union, and working families.  Our Union has many members who live in these battleground states. We need to support candidates who are pro-transit, pro-union, and pro-working families. If you are not registered, please do so immediately and encourage your fellow ATU members, friends, and family to do so. Also remember to vote whether early, by mail or on election day because our future hangs in the balance.

Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV)

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Senator Rosen a lifetime pro-union voting score of 92%.

“As a former member of the Culinary Workers Union in Nevada, I know firsthand just how important unions are to lift up working families,” said Sen. Rosen. “At a time when many hardworking Nevadans are seeing the cost of living outpace the wages they earn, we need to protect their right to organize and to bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions without fear of intimidation.”

Transit

“I’m honored to have the Amalgamated Transit Union’s endorsement for my re-election. ATU workers literally move the state. Thanks to all of you, we have reliable public transportation that helps curb traffic and can even solve the climate crisis.  The work you do fighting for the rights of transit workers was on full display when you recently negotiated better contracts for local bus drivers and mechanics. Thank you again for your support and friendship.” said
Sen. Rosen.

Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Senator Baldwin a lifetime pro-union voting score of 99%.

“In recent years, we’ve seen wealthy corporate interests attack workers’ rights and undermine labor law, often in order to pad their already record profits. The result has been growing wealth inequality, a shrinking middle class, and working families left without a voice. This legislation takes bold action to respect and reward Wisconsinites hard work, empowering them to fight for fair pay, a safe workplace, quality health care, and the dignity of a secure retirement that they have earned,” said Sen. Baldwin in sponsoring Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

Transit

“I am so appreciative of all the hard and courageous work you do to keep our transportation system going strong every single day, especially during the hard times, like during the Covid-19 pandemic. You have my word that I am always going to work hard for you. That’s why in the historic Bi-partisan infrastructure law, we secured over $107 billion for transit.  We’ve still got more work to do for transit.  With the ATU by my side, I’m confident we’re going to keep taking on the big fights and winning for transit and all U.S. workers.” said Sen. Baldwin.

Senator Bob Casey (D-PA)

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Senator Casey a lifetime pro-union voting score of 99%.

“Every worker in America deserves to be paid a living wage and treated with dignity and respect. That’s why I’m fighting to pass the PRO Act in Congress. This will safeguard and strengthen workers’ fundamental right to organize. When passed it will help to restore fairness to an economy that has been rigged against workers for too long. We owe it to workers and families to create an economy that works for them, not corporate interests. Thanks ATU members for your support and always helping lead the fight for transit and transit workers. Together we will uplift working families,” said Sen. Casey.

Transit

“From our biggest cities to our rural communities, people across the Commonwealth rely on public transportation to get everywhere they need to go work, school, the grocery store and more. Thanks to the infrastructure law, many of the Commonwealth’s public transit systems will be able to upgrade vehicles, improve facilities and provide faster, safer, and more convenient service,” said Sen. Casey

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH)

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Senator Brown a lifetime pro-union voting score of 99%.

“We are also working together to pass the PRO Act which will finally give workers a fighting chance against corporate union-busting tactics. Unions are all about the Dignity of Work. They give workers a voice in their workplace, and empower people to build careers and build better lives for their families. When we have strong unions, we have a strong middle class.  And like the ATU, it keeps our country moving forward,” said Sen. Brown.

Transit

“Thank you to the Amalgamated Transit Union for your support and always standing up for working men and women. Without your help we could not have passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.  This secured $107 billion for transit and increased safety protections for transit workers,” said Sen. Brown.

Senator Jon Tester (D-MT)

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Senator Tester a lifetime pro-union voting score of 93%.

“We are standing on the shoulders of the working folks and labor union members who came before us, who fought for fair wages, fair hours, and safe working conditions. It is our responsibility to increase economic opportunity and prosperity for our kids and grandkids. As your Senator, I will always stand with working families,” said Sen. Tester.

Transit

“No public transit systems should fall by the wayside, and it’s our job to make sure Congress understands the need for efficient, sufficient transportation. Many of the state’s transit systems are operating day-to-day at full capacity on tight budgets. One bus breakdown could affect an entire community,” said Sen. Tester.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Candidate for U.S. Senate

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Rep. Gallego a lifetime pro-union voting score of 98%.

“When workers form unions, they can access higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. Every worker in Arizona deserves the right to join a union if they choose to, and this bill protects that right. Unions are essential to rebuilding Arizona’s middle class,” said Rep. Gallego. about the Pro Act

Transit

“Thank you for being such a strong supporter of my run for US Senate. Working together we have had many successes. None of us though will forget the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, which we worked together on to get passed. These acts  alone delivered over $107 billion for transit and on the job safety improvements. You really do move America and we aren’t moving anywhere without your hard work and dedication,” said Rep. Gallego.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Candidate for U.S. Senate

Labor

The AFL-CIO gives Rep. Slotkin a lifetime pro-union voting score of 100%.

“As the representative for one of the most unionized districts in the country, I can tell you firsthand that unions are the backbone of our economy. I’m thrilled that 14 major Michigan labor unions that represent over 100,000 workers are endorsing my campaign for U.S. Senate,” said Rep. Slotkin.

Transit

“Michigan put the world on wheels, and our state’s 1,500 ATU members continue to keep us global leaders in mobility every day. I was proud to support the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which delivered the largest transit investment in American history. Dirt is moving on transit projects in every corner of our state, and Michigan’s workers and their families are moving into the middle class with it.
I’m truly honored to have the support of Michigan’s ATU members and look forward to our continued partnership in modernizing our nation’s infrastructure and strengthening our middle class,”
said Rep. Slotkin.
