More from the first day of the Local 689 Battle’s Transportation/RHG Group strike as International President John Costa fired up our members in their fight for a fair contract! Joining Costa on the picket line were International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo, International Secretary-Treasurer Ken Kirk, and International Vice President Anthony Garland.
Pledging the support of the International, Costa urged our members to stand united and called out Battle’s/RHG management. “When companies like this treat our members like dirt and disrespect us at the bargaining table, there is only one course of action. We don’t like to abandon our riders who depend on us, but Battle’s left us with no other option. Your Local 689 has been down this road before with multiple strikes over the last few years. Each and every time, we held the line and won. This will be no different,” said Costa. “I am proud to be here with you today and know that our more than 200,000 members and 250 Locals across the United States and Canada will stand with you until you get the contract that you deserve.”
Local 689 President/Business Agent Ray Jackson thanked Costa, Trujillo, Kirk, and Garland for coming to the picket line and for the International's support in this fight. Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO President Samuel Epps also came out to show his solidarity with our members.
We proudly support our Local 689 Battle’s members and their commitment to securing a contract they deserve.
