International President John Costa returned to his roots in his home state of New Jersey to help kick off the first-ever ATU Northeast Conference in Atlantic City, bringing together Locals from across the East Coast in a show of unity and strength.
The energy was undeniable as leaders and members gathered to share ideas, address key challenges, and pave the way forward for our Union. Costa gave a moving opening to the inaugural event by highlighting key issues facing each of our Locals in the Northeast.

"From our Mentor Programs in Maine, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and DC to new organizing efforts in Connecticut, Virginia, and Massachusetts, the ATU is thriving in the Northeast. We're advancing key legislation—like banning riders who assault workers in Maryland, requiring drivers in autonomous vehicles in Massachusetts, and mandating full bus barriers in Maine—while fighting harmful proposals like forced union recertification in New Hampshire. Your work is building a strong, united front, and I’m proud to witness the first meeting of what will be a powerful force within the ATU."

Costa was joined at the Conference by International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo, Secretary Treasurer Ken Kirk, and International Vice Presidents Ray Greaves, Amanda Sawyer-Turner, Mark Henry, and Jacques Chapman, who represent members across the Northeast.
Thank you to everyone who made this conference a success! The fight for workers’ rights never stops.
