IP Costa kicked off an innovative ATU training for new Local Officers yesterday in Washington, DC

Yesterday in Washington, DC, International President John Costa kicked off an innovative ATU training for new Local Officers to learn critical leadership skills to effectively run their Locals.

“I joined my Local 819 as a cleaner at NJ Transit, then a trackman/signal technician, and eventually a lineman. After serving my Local in various capacities, I was elected President. I’ve been in your shoes. I know you can’t run a Union from your office,” Costa told attendees. “This training will help you to better serve your members. The International is here to assist you and your Local, whether it’s legal, negotiations, workforce development, health and safety, or communications. The skills and tactics you learn will make you a better leader.”

International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo and International Secretary-Treasurer Ken Kirk also addressed the attendees. Over the week, the Local leaders will hear from staff on a wide variety of topics and strategies to strengthen their Locals and empower their members.
