International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo joined over 75+ Shop Stewards in Ontario, California, for ATU’s revamped Shop Steward training program. Designed to empower and educate, this program equips Shop Stewards with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively advocate for their fellow members and strengthen our Union.

“I was a Shop Steward just like you. I worked my way up, starting as a Shop Steward, then serving as Recording Secretary, and eventually becoming the President of Local 1001 in Denver, CO before becoming the Executive Vice President of the ATU. At the heart of every successful union is a dedicated group of individuals who are the frontline defenders of workers’ rights – our Shop Stewards,” Trujillo told the attendees. “Being a Shop Steward is more than just a title; it’s a responsibility that requires knowledge, skills, and dedication. Make the most of it and keep up the incredible work you’re doing.

Led by ATU International staff, the interactive training emphasized the essential role of Shop Stewards, equipping them with the tools to advocate for their members. Through real-life stories, participants gained the skills needed to strengthen their Locals, protect their members, and how to tackle future challenges. With this newly trained group of Shop Stewards, ATU reaffirms its commitment to ensuring workers' voices are heard and their rights upheld.

International Vice Presidents Jim Lindsay, Art Aguilar and Michael Cornelius were also present, offering their expertise and guidance to support the Stewards.

Thank you to our Shop Stewards from across the region who attended this engaging and important training to better serve our members and Locals.
