ATU makes history with our first ever Pride Caucus meeting in New Orleans, LA

This weekend, the ATU made history with our first ever Pride Caucus meeting in New Orleans, LA, where International President John Costa had the privilege of being their honorary speaker.

“Our union is built on the principle that everyone deserves respect and protection regardless of their background, identity, or orientation,” said International President John Costa. “And that’s why I’m here today—to reaffirm our commitment to making sure that those principles extend to all members and their families everywhere. Pride is not just a celebration. It is a declaration. A declaration that our identities are valid. A declaration that we are seen and heard. A declaration that we will not be silenced by hate, discrimination, or injustice. This is why the Pride Caucus is such a vital part of our union. I’m proud of you, we are proud of you, we stand with you, and we are committed to building a better, more inclusive future for everyone.”

Throughout the weekend, members heard about legal updates, safety, navigating overlapping identities, how to set up a Local Pride Caucus, and how to be an ally. Joining Costa at the Caucus were our International Vice Presidents who showed their support for the historic inaugural meeting.
