Today, International President John Costa was on the ground in Gainesville, Florida, to visit with our hardworking Local 1579 members on the job.
First, Local President/Business Agent Zefnia Durham III, Financial Secretary Sherry R. DeSue, and their Executive Board members took Costa on a tour of the GO-RTS – Corrine Brown Transit Facility, where they visited various departments, including maintenance, parts, dispatch, training, the control center, and operator and maintenance break rooms. Also joining Costa and the Local was Local 1464 President/Business Agent Stephen Simon.
After they toured the facility, our members took Costa to their office, where they sat and discussed the issues impacting our members in Gainesville. “It was truly inspiring to visit our dedicated members here in Gainesville and to witness firsthand their commitment to public transit and serving this community with pride. Florida is not a great state for labor, but your commitment and perseverance make our union strong. Thank you for making the ATU proud.”
