Today in Toronto, International President John Costa had the opportunity to tour the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

On his last day in Toronto, International President John Costa had the opportunity to tour the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Hillcrest Complex and visit with Local 113 members on the job. The Hillcrest complex is the TTC’s largest maintenance facility, which is responsible for most of the maintenance work on the system’s surface vehicles, including heavy overhauls, repairs, and repainting.

The first stop was the D.W. Harvey shops. The building handles the heavy maintenance of buses as well as high-floor streetcars. The shop is divided into sections for trades such as upholstery, blacksmith, and carpentry, as well as a paint shop. Here, the group also got to tour another bus of the future prototype. The next stop was the Duncan building, which is the TTC’s heavy bus maintenance facility, including rebuilds to meet the needs of the bus operating divisions.
Joining Costa on the tour was ATU Canada President John Di Nino and maintenance International Vice Presidents Jim Lindsay, John Callahan, Curtis Howard, Ray Greaves, and Art Aguilar, as well as ATU staff.

It was an amazing trip to Ontario, first visiting Centennial College, then visiting Local 1573 in Brampton and the Local 113 United to Win campaign training, and finally, the Hillcrest Complex. Thank you to ATU Canada and ATU Local 113 for hosting us! It was a great week of learning and solidarity.
