The ATU and California Transit Works (CTW) meeting in San Diego, California, reconvened at the Local 1309 union hall.

The ATU and California Transit Works (CTW) meeting in San Diego, California, reconvened at the Local 1309 union hall, where attendees discussed the current grants awarded to train our members to advance their careers and the transit industry.

International President John Costa was there to listen and offer advice. “Workers' voices are at the center of every single one of these workforce development initiatives,” said Costa. “Transit workers must play a role in shaping their own working conditions and career advancement opportunities. Workforce development isn’t just about giving workers the skills for future jobs; it’s about them having a say. The work that the ATU and CTW are doing is fundamentally changing people’s lives, and we should all be proud of that."
The ATU and CTW have various grants that will positively impact thousands of transit workers. The ATU has been a champion for the rights and advancement of transit workers across North America. These grants are ATU’s latest efforts to support the professional growth of our members and give them the tools and training necessary to thrive in an evolving industry. Public transit plays a vital role in connecting communities, and strengthening our members that support these systems is crucial to ensuring high-quality, reliable service. This is just one example of how unions can play a transformative role in shaping the future of work.

International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo, International Vice President Natalie Cruz, and Workforce Development Director Jamaine Gibson joined Costa at the meeting. Thank you, CTW, for your partnership and solidarity in training our members.
