More than 70 Local President/Business Agents took part in a Local President/Business Agents' Refresher Training.

Today, more than 70 Local President/Business Agents took part in a Local President/Business Agents' Refresher Training.

International President John Costa and International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo kicked off the training by thanking the Local leaders for their commitment and dedication to our members and our Union. “It’s great to see all the President/Business Agents on this important training today. We know you are busy and appreciate you taking time to get on this training,” Costa said. “I was President of a big Local so understand the challenges you have with your members and transit agencies. We hope you come away from today’s training with a refresher on the skills and knowledge that you can use to help run your Local.”
Costa also spoke with the Florida Local leaders asking about the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton on their members. He also spoke about the importance of the upcoming election in the U.S. and provincial elections, successful strikes in Vancouver and Jackson, the ATU Canada Conference, the recent General Executive Board Meeting in NYC, upcoming new International training, the 2025 ATU Convention, and other issues.

Conducted by ATU General Counsel Dan Smith the training covered the responsibilities and duties of President/Business Agents under the Constitution and General Laws. This included a discussion of fiduciary responsibility, internal controls, and local union oversight. Also covered were the duties of executive board members and the rules regarding Executive board and membership meetings. This training provides both new and experienced Local Presidents the opportunity to refresh their skills for running their Locals and best serving their members.
