Ahead of the ATU Canada Conference this week in Hamilton, Ontario, the ATU Canada board was joined by International President John Costa, who pledged his unwavering support for our Canadian Locals and the work being done nationwide.
“I don’t look at us as the U.S. and Canada. I see us as family, as one ATU,” said Costa. “The International has intentionally and strategically committed resources and boots on the ground to ensure that our Canadian members have what they need to get the contracts they deserve. Thank you to this board for being leaders in the fight. It’s my honor to work alongside all of you.”
Next was a site visit and meet and greet with Local 846-Niagara, ON, President/Business Agent Gord Campbell, his executive board members and our members at the Niagara Region Transit garage. The next stop was the St. Catharines Transit Station, where Costa met members in the breakroom and on their buses. “Visiting with you, our dedicated members, is a powerful reminder of the strength and solidarity that fuels our Union,” said Costa. “Your commitment and hard work are the backbone of our success. Thank you for everything you do to make our Union strong and our communities moving.” Last stop was Niagara, ON, where the ATU recently organized microtransit shuttle van workers with Voyago.
Joining Costa was ATU Canada President John Di Nino and International Vice Presidents Manny Sforza and Ken Wilson. Tomorrow starts day one of the ATU Canada Conference.
