International President John Costa was in Staten Island, NY, today, joining leaders from across the Empire State for the New York Legislative Conference Board to discuss critical legislative fights, contract battles, and the importance of elections.
Costa kicked off the meeting, thanking the conference board members for their dedication to advancing policies and politicians who make life better for our members. “It’s not an easy path forward,” said Costa. “We have to prepare for the worst and fight like hell for the best. But we’re in this together, and it’s my honor to fight alongside you.”
Attendees also heard presentations from our International Government Affairs department about the recent federal elections, how we move forward in future elections, and about issues and races specifically affecting New York state.
International Vice Presidents Jacques Chapman and Mark Henry joined Costa at the conference board along with Locals 726-Staten Island, NY, NY, Local 282-Rochester, NY, Local 1181 and Local 1179-New York, NY, Local 1056-Flushing, NY, Local 1342-Buffalo, NY, and Local 1145-Binghamton, NY.
ATU’s Conference Boards are powerful regional groups of Local leaders who tackle the legislative, political, and industry issues most important to our members. The Conference Boards also gather in state capitals to meet with state legislators and advocate on critical issues that impact the ATU.
