International President John Costa was at the New Jersey State Council office in Kenilworth, NJ, today to endorse New Jersey’s First Lady Tammy Murphy for U.S. Senate along with International Vice President Ray Greaves, NJ State Council Chair Orlando Riley, and the entire NJ State Council board.
“I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. I got into this business as a shop steward at New Jersey Transit and worked my way up to Chair of this Council and eventually International President,” said Costa. “New Jersey is my home. I met Tammy and her husband, Governor Phil Murphy, a while ago. I worked with them and spoke with them many times on behalf of our members. Whenever I speak to Tammy, she takes her time to listen and understand the issues. We need operating assistance to protect our members' jobs and to keep riders on our buses. We have AI and microtransit that are disrupting our industry and safety concerns. While our issues are being debated and voted on in D.C., we need to be at the table, and with Tammy, we’ll be at the table. I’m proud to endorse her for U.S. Senate.”
The board listened and asked questions of Murphy, highlighting what’s important to our members across the Garden State.
“The ATU is truly the backbone of our transit hub across our state and across our country,” said Murphy. “I will just tell you I am beyond honored to stand beside the ATU, and personally, I have a little kick in my step because I really respect you all, and I look forward to working with you every single day. I will be with you every step of the way. You’ve got a partner in me, and I will not let you down.”
The ATU is Ridin’ with Murphy for U.S. Senate.
